My Therapeutic Approach
As a fully accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists Ireland (APCP), my primary goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences and feelings.
I work from an integrative and trauma-informed approach, drawing from a range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and holistic approaches to emotional wellbeing.
I believe therapy should be tailored to each individual’s unique experiences, emotional needs, and goals. No two people experience emotional pain in exactly the same way, which is why I work collaboratively with each person to find an approach that feels supportive, meaningful, and appropriate for where they are in their life.
Understanding Trauma & Emotional Pain
Trauma can affect how we think, feel, relate to others, and experience ourselves in the world. Sometimes trauma stems from a single significant event, while at other times it develops gradually through difficult childhood experiences, emotional neglect, addiction within the family, loss, chronic stress, or ongoing emotional pain.
Many people struggling with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, addiction, or depression are often carrying wounds that developed long before they had the understanding or support to process them.
Therapy offers a safe and compassionate space to explore these experiences gently, helping people develop greater emotional awareness, resilience, self-understanding, and healthier ways of coping and relating.
CBT, Integrative Therapy & Parts Work
CBT can help identify patterns of thinking, behaviour, and emotional responses that may contribute to anxiety, stress, trauma responses, low mood, and self-critical thinking. It offers practical tools that can help people better understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and physical reactions.
Alongside CBT, I integrate relational, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed approaches depending on each individual’s needs. I am also particularly interested in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and “parts work,” which recognises that many of us carry wounded, protective, fearful, critical, or younger emotional parts that developed as ways of coping with difficult experiences.
Rather than judging or fighting these parts of ourselves, therapy can help us understand them with greater compassion, curiosity, and self-awareness.
Addiction Recovery & Emotional Healing
My background in addiction counselling and recovery work continues to deeply influence my understanding of emotional pain, trauma, coping, and human resilience.
Addiction is often far more complex than the behaviour itself. Beneath many addictive patterns are experiences of emotional pain, shame, trauma, loss, anxiety, disconnection, or unmet emotional needs.
I have worked extensively with individuals and families affected by alcohol and substance addiction, supporting people with recovery, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, self-understanding, and rebuilding healthier relationships with themselves and others.
A Collaborative & Compassionate Process
I believe therapy works best when people feel safe, accepted, and able to speak honestly without fear of judgement.
My aim is to offer a calm, compassionate, and supportive space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace while developing greater understanding, emotional wellbeing, and healthier ways of coping and relating.
Therapy is not about being “fixed.” It is about creating the space for healing, self-awareness, growth, and meaningful change to emerge over time.
